Mission Statement
Psychology Peer Advising exists to make a positive difference as we aim to meet the needs of Psychology faculty, staff, and students at James Madison University. We serve the JMU community by working in cooperation with faculty members in order to further the educational, professional, and personal development of JMU students interested in Psychology.

Our Services
Psychology Peer Advisors are upper level Psychology majors at James Madison University. Because we have most likely experienced similar situations as the students who come to our office, we have a better understanding of what these students might be going through. Our aim is to do everything possible to help you enhance your experience as a Psychology major.
Our main objective is to serve the JMU Psychology community. Some responsibilities of Peer Advising include:
All Peer Advisors hold office hours during the week. Our office provides students with a dependable place to come when advisors or professors are unavailable or busy, or when you just want to talk to a student with similar experience. During office hours, Peer Advisors...
The concerns of students who visit our office range from brief informational questions about major and/or general education requirements to in-depth discussions about the different fields of Psychology and the graduate school application process. Many students comes to the office with concerns regarding class availability, getting a job after graduation, and getting into grad school. Some students simply need an empathetic ear. Peer Advisors show students how to access information on numerous topics, including graduate programs, the GRE, scholarships, and internships.
Psychology Peer Advisors abide by the APA Code of Ethics, respecting confidentiality of information given to or received from any person visiting the office.
Our main objective is to serve the JMU Psychology community. Some responsibilities of Peer Advising include:
- Representing the Department of Psychology at open houses and JMU CHOICES days for prospective students
- Writing and publishing the Peer Advising Press
- Hosting symposia on topics that are interesting and relevant to Psychology majors and other JMU students
- Facilitating Psychology Major information sessions and registration assistance workshops

- Assist students with course registration and scheduling for upcoming semesters
- Discuss and check students' graduation requirements
